The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC), a forward-thinking major utility providing comprehensive water reclamation services to the Hamilton County region in southwestern Ohio, is seeking an energetic, experienced, strategic-minded professional for a key leadership role as a Principal Engineer in our organization. Under the general direction of the Sewers Chief Engineer, the Principal Engineer will lead the management and supervision of the recently formed Project and Business Development Division that is responsible for the preliminary designs used in the MSDGC capital improvement program, including the project scope used in the annual production of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) submitted for approval by the Board of Hamilton County Commissioners. MSDGC offers a fast-paced, diverse, team-based work environment, with an outstanding pay and benefits package.
The Principal Engineer in this position supervises a staff of engineer planners, modelers, and technicians that maintain and utilize the MSDGC flow model, the related flow monitoring program, and the overall CIP preliminary design projects. The Principal Engineer will determine to a great extent MSDGC’s success in executing the program associated with accomplishing Consent Decree remediation of the Hamilton County sewerage infrastructure over the next 18 years. The Project and Business Development Division, along with its recently created sister program, Project Delivery Division will be responsible for the complete project delivery process. The projects within this program will affect every ratepayer, stakeholder, business and citizen within Hamilton County. This position is important to MSDGC’s success in carrying out the program for meeting its obligations under the Consent Decree. The Wet Weather Improvement Plan is the capital investment portion of the Consent Decree and consists of over 300 projects scheduled over two decades. QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and at least three years of supervisory experience assigning and reviewing engineering design projects, assuring quality control, and adherence to policies and procedures. Must be a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Ohio, or in a state with equivalent registration requirements. If registered in another state, Ohio registration must be obtained within the one year probationary period. Ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree with 10 to 15 years of planning, design and management of engineering projects as a Professional Engineer and has planned and/or designed projects presented in a Global Consent Decree and WWIP. Applicant must demonstrate ability to supervise a large staff and have or obtain a Project Management Professional registration. Experience should be in the sanitary and combined sewer field dealing with combined sewer overflows and treatment plant upgrades. Experience in pump station design and rehabilitation will be considered a plus. Applicant should highlight experience demonstrating their versatility of engineering and project management experience in civil, environmental, mechanical or process type projects ranging from small projects to large multi-million dollar civil or environmental projects to facility projects that include buried pipelines and pump station planning and design, instrumentation and treatment process experience. Applicant must be able to work in a collaborative team environment with program management, quality control, startup engineering, startup engineering, operations and project controls. Candidate must be willing to work irregular hours. Applicant must possess a valid Ohio’s driver license. All required experience must have occurred within the last (5) five years.
