The City of Cincinnati Health Department is seeking to fill an Environmental Safety Specialist. This employee performs a variety of activities as they relate to the environmental and/or employee safety aspects of various City programs. Employee performs inspections, investigations, and evaluations of moderately complex operations and facilities for the enforcement of environmental and/or employee health and safety provisions of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Some evening hours are required in this position.

TRANSCRIPTS showing your qualifications for this position must be submitted by the deadline date. The City does not maintain a transcript file; you must submit transcripts with each application you submit. QUALIFICATIONS: Each applicant must have three years experience as an Environmental Safety Specialist or relevant experience in the area of environmental health, sampling or safety, plus a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major or concentration of courses in the following course areas: Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Health Physics, Biostatistics, Physiology, Toxicology, Epidemiology, Industrial Ventilation, Air Sampling, or a related field. All required experience must have occurred within the last (5) five years. You are required to show your valid driver's license or state id card to the Human Resources Department staff NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS. Must be a resident of the State of Ohio at the time of appointment.
A criminal background investigation will be conducted for this position (according to Civil Service Commission Rule 15 – Sensitive Classifications/Positions and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act of 2001 and the Patriot Act). The purpose is to detect security risks and prevent security threats posed by potential employees.
