The Supply Division of the Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) is seeking to fill a Plant Operator 1 position. Under direct supervision, this employee is responsible for monitoring the proper operation of and controlling the various processes and equipment in our water treatment plants and pumping stations. This position performs process maintenance tasks to ensure normal continuous operations and performs related duties as required. Plant Operators are required to be certified through the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) as one condition of passing their 12 month probationary period. You may receive your Operation-in-Training (OIT) certification by passing the OEPA State Exam which is given twice a year. Obtaining your OIT plus one year of experience is required to obtain a Water Supply Class 1 Certification. Plant Operators are required to work irregular and/or rotating shifts including some week-ends and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Each applicant must be a high school graduate or have passed the GED (General Education Development) test and have either a Class 1 Operator-in Training designation, a Class 1 Operator Water Supply Certification, or forty-eight credit hours of college level course work, of which twenty-four must be in the areas of math, physics, biology, chemistry, engineering, water or wastewater technology, or related field.  One year of experience working in the field of water treatment may substitute for 24 hours of course credit. Must have possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Ohio driver’s license. All required experience must have occurred within the last (5) five years. You are required to show your valid driver's license or state ID card to the Human Resources Department staff NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS.  Must be a resident of the State of Ohio at the time of appointment.

A criminal background investigation will be conducted for this position (according to Civil Service Commission Rule 15 – Sensitive Classifications/Positions and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act of 2001 and the
Patriot Act). The purpose is to detect security risks and prevent security threats posed by potential employees.
