Engineer Intern Salary:   $45,117 - $60,639 annually

The City of Cincinnati is seeking to fill a Senior Engineer position with the Greater Cincinnati Water Works Department (GCWW), a municipally owned and operated utility. GCWW serves approximately one million people encompassing over 50 different political jurisdictions. The total service area is over 800 square miles.
Individuals must possess the professional skills to communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, public agencies, GCWW staff and customers, and be highly self-motivated and able to perform with minimal supervision. The position offers a stable environment plus state-of-the-art technology and challenging projects.

The position is in the Engineering Division and is involved with the study, design, and construction of a wide range of water utility projects such as water mains, pump stations, treatment plants, reservoirs, tanks, and office buildings. Design responsibilities include preparation of drawings and specifications for construction by a contractor, writing and reviewing specifications, supervising the design of facilities completed by engineering consultants, and coordinating the design with other Water Works divisions. The candidate must be able to see projects through the purchasing procedures from advertisement to award of the contract. The candidate must be capable of obtaining required permits as required by regulatory agencies or other appropriate jurisdictions. Construction responsibilities include managing construction contractors, consultants and GCWW staff, monitoring performance and contract compliance, supervising technical staff and interacting with contractor’s field forces, and approving and processing construction change orders and request for payments. The candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Preferred candidate will have demonstrated project management skills and possess a background that includes experience in all aspects of water utility design and construction administration.

QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify as a senior engineer each applicant must have completed a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil or environmental engineering and must be a registered professional engineer in Ohio or in a state with equivalent registration requirements. If not registered in Ohio when appointed, an Ohio Professional Engineer’s license must be obtained within the one-year probationary period. To quality as an engineer intern, each applicant must have completed a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil or environmental engineering or have passed the fundamentals of engineering exam (E.I.T.). The position will require a criminal background investigation. All required experience must have occurred within the last (5) five years. You are required to show your valid driver's license to the Human Resources Department staff NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS. Must be a Hamilton County resident at the time of appointment.
