Fire Captain Michael A. Washington reported on a one-alarm fire which occurred this morning in Westwood. At 09:27 AM the Cincinnati Fire Communication Center received a telephone alarm reporting a structure fire at 2816 Lafeuille Avenue.
Initial fire units arrived on the scene and confirmed a “working fire” with smoke showing in a two-story brick four-unit apartment building. Firefighters discovered a fire victim in the front yard suffering from fire related injuries.
Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior fire attack confining the fire to the basement storage area. The fire was placed under control within ten minutes. Primary and secondary searches were conducted, revealing negative results, no persons found. Ventilation of the entire structure was required, the structure suffered extensive smoke damage.
The fire victim was assessed by paramedics and transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment. Damage is estimated at $75,000.00 dollars. No firefighters were injured. Origin and cause to this fire incident was refueling/repairing gasoline powered equipment inside of building near an ignition source. Twenty-eight firefighters were utilized at this incident. Four adults and one child have been displaced.
The Cincinnati Fire Department strongly discourages anyone from storing flammable liquids are working on gasoline powered equipment indoors near ignition sources.
