Fire Captain Michael A. Washington reported on a two-alarm structure fire which occurred this morning in Spring Grove Village. At 05:41 hours the Cincinnati Fire Communication Center received a telephone call from the occupants of 4412 Station Avenue reporting a structure fire, smoke alarms could be heard sounding in the background.
Initial fire units arrived on the scene and discovered heavy fire showing from the first floor rear of a two-story with an attic large (frame) private dwelling. Fire units conducted an aggressive interior fire attack with fire hoses. The structure was searched and the ventilation duties were performed.
Due the type of building construction (balloon) frame, the fire extended into hidden wall voids, the fire raced through the open voids from the first floor and into the attic space. A second alarm was requested for additional resources, this fire was labor intensive. It took an hour and half to bring this fire under control. Forty-six firefighters were utilized at this incident.
Damage is estimated at $120,000.00 dollars, there were no injuries reported. The Cincinnati Fire Investigation Unit is currently on the scene investigating this incident. The fire is currently listed as “Undetermined”. Smoke alarms were present and operational, in fact the building occupants credit their smoke alarms for alerting them to awake for this fire.
