District Two Fire Chief John Zompero reported on a one alarm structure fire that occurred early this morning in Covedale.
Fire units were dispatched at 4:51 AM to 1156 Woody Lane. for a report of a structure fire. First arriving companies found heavy fire showing from the front door and windows of a one story occupied private dwelling with fire spreading to the porch roof. Fire crews conducted an aggressive interior fire attack controlling this fire within minutes of arrival.
After talking to the only occupant and conducting an investigation, it appears that the fire was caused by an unattended candle. Damage is estimated at $30,000 damage to the structure and its contents. The occupant suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. There were no working smoke alarms in the building.
