Fire Captain Michael A. Washington reported on a two alarm structure fire which occurred tonight in Avondale. At 8:43 PM a structure fire was reported by neighbors at 2529 Vinecrest Avenue. Arriving firefighters had blocked access to the dead end street by an illegally parked car. They immediately called for a second alarm because the delay could have endangered the surrounding homes.
The burning building was heavily involved in flames. The firefighters were able to overcome the obstacles and quickly extinguished the fire. One adult was displaced and is being aided by the Red Cross. The cause is under investigation. Damage is estimated at $35,000. Smoke alarm performance is being evaluated. No firefighters or civilians were injured.
