One Alarm Structure Fire 224 Twain Avenue


District-Two Fire Chief Ron Davis reported on a one alarm structure fire which occurred this morning in Sayler Park. Fire companies were dispatched to a report of a building fire at 224 Twain Ave. Fire companies arrived to find light smoke coming from the second floor of a one family dwelling. Fire companies entered the dwelling and extinguished a small fire in a second floor bedroom. The fire was confined to the room of origin.

The occupants were alerted by smell of smoke and had exited the building before arrival of fire companies.

There was an injury sustain by a 14 year old occupant who received 2nd degree burns to his forearm and hands while trying to extinguish the fire. The victim was taken to the hospital after being treated on the scene. The injuries appeared to be minor and not life threatening.

There were no injuries to firefighters. There was a smoke alarm on the second floor but it did not operate.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be combustibles to close to a candle. The loss is estimated at $ 5,000 dollars.
