District-three Fire Chief Glenn Coleman reported on a one-alarm fire that occurred at 7325 Scottwood Ave. in Bond Hill. At 10:35 PM the Cincinnati Fire communications center received a 911 call reporting a building fire. Upon arrival fire fighters found heavy black smoke coming from the second floor of this 2 story with an attic single-family dwelling.
Fire fighters entered the building with fire lines and extinguished a bedroom fire on the second floor. At the same time companies conducted a search of the building to make sure all residents had evacuated. The occupant of the home was treating the second floor bedroom for bedbugs with a 70% alcohol and bug killer solution. She entered the bedroom to move the mattress and while there lit a cigarette.
The fumes in the bedroom ignited and caught the mattress on fire. She tried to extinguish the fire was unsuccessful. She notified other occupants and they all escaped. Fire was quickly brought under control and confined to the second floor bedroom with smoke damage to entire second floor and attic. Two adults and one infant were displaced and the Red Cross was called for assistance. Working smoke detectors were sounding when fire fighters arrived. Damage is estimated at $30,000 dollars. No fire fighters or civilians were injured.
