District Fire Chief Gary Scott reported on a one-alarm fire, which occurred in Mt. Airy. At 12:25 PM the Cincinnati Fire Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 5146 Hawaiian Terrace.
Initial fire units arriving on the scene confirmed a working fire in a three-story apartment building. On-scene size-up identified heavy smoke and fire showing at the 2nd and 3rd floor of a five-unit townhouse apartment building. An aggressive interior fire attack on the fire was initiated along with a primary search of the entire structure. Within a short period of time, the apartment fire was brought under control and all occupants exited the building safely. The fire was contained to the apartment of fire origin.
The cause of the fire was determined to be “food on stove / left unattended”. Fire loss was set at $25,000 to structure and content. Smoke alarms were present but it was undetermined if they were operational. The American Red Cross was called to assist with the displacement of 2 adults and 2 children.
There were thirty-two fire personnel utilized at this incident. There were no injuries to civilians or fire fighters as a result of this incident.
