District Four Fire Chief Keith Burkert reported that Cincinnati Firefighters responded to a structure fire in an occupied eight family multi-dwelling in Madisonville early this morning. A resident in apartment #2 had fallen asleep while cooking.
The smoke alarm in her apartment had been disabled with the battery removed. She was alerted to the fire when another resident pounded on her door. Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the kitchen and ventilated smoke from the rest of the building.
Damage is estimated at $10,000 and there were no injuries.
This is yet, another example of the value of working smoke alarms. This outcome could have been far worse.
