Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

The primary goal of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is to assure that responding units provide excellent emergency medical pre-hospital treatment and transportation to the public in order to reduce morbidity and mortality. Deliver patients to definitive care in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.

The EMS works under the direction of the Fire Chief and the Assistant Operations Chief, while working closely with the Medical Director, in the design of training and operations programs which comply with legal mandates, health issues, and minimization of legal liabilities. Work involves coordination of the EMS first responder and transport services within the Fire Operations Division.

The EMS personnel recommend programs and policies and coordinate services with other Department personnel, other City Departments, other emergency medical services and the medical community.
