The City of Cincinnati’s Strategic Program for Urban Redevelopment (SPUR) is an initiative to return vacant, contaminated, or underutilized land to productive uses. The SPUR team is a high-performance, interdepartmental team that is designed to overcome the complex issues posed by brownfield properties and other urban redevelopment projects. Currently the SPUR team is focused on 16 target areas within City limits.
Over its first 7 years in existence, the SPUR team has contributed to remediation and redevelopment of nearly 150 acres of property, such as the Red Bank Crossing project, which has resulted in 166,000 SF of new commercial space, 400 jobs, and over $24 million in investment in Madisonville.
The SPUR Team consists of members from the following City agencies:
• Dept. of Community Development (DCD)
• Economic Development Division (EDD)
• Office of Environmental Quality (OEQ)
• Office of Budget & Evaluation (B&E)
• Law Dept.
• Property Management and Real Estate Relocation Services (Real Estate)
• Dept. of Transportation and Engineering (DOTE)
• Dept. of City Planning and Buildings (CP&B)
Through coordinated efforts by Cincinnati’s SPUR Team, interested businesses and developers can access various types of redevelopment grants and loans. A list of available redevelopment funding sources can be found below under the link entitled ‘Incentive Programs’.
Since 2009, the SPUR team has led the implementation of the City’s GO Cincinnati economic development strategy. For more information about GO Cincinnati, please select the link below.
