Partners In Education Program (Hays/Porter-Washburn School)

The City of Cincinnati is a partner with Hays-Porter/Washburn school in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood. The partnership began in 1983. It is part of Cincinnati's Partners in Education program, which was established in 1979 to improve the quality of education in Cincinnati Public Schools and inner-city schools of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Schools are matched with businesses, and human resources are used to meet jointly developed partnership goals and objectives.

Partnership activities include HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed), a structured, reading-based, one-on-one tutoring program that focuses on first and third graders; an education/career day; an annual landscaping/clean up project; and a Thanksgiving food drive for needy families of Hays-Porter/Washburn School students. The Citizens Committee on Youth is also a collaborator in the partnership.
