Capital Arts Grant Program

*2008 Capital Arts Grant Deadline:  4:00pm August 15, 2008*

The City of Cincinnati created the Capital Arts Grant Program (CAP) to assist arts and cultural organizations in implementing projects that stabilize, maintain, and improve overall community economic viability in the City’s neighborhoods.   The CAP program provides funding assistance to non-profit artistic and cultural organizations forcapital improvement projects that are designed to expand, renovate, construct, or equip cultural arts facilitieslocated within City neighborhoods.   These capital projects assist the nonprofit cultural community in providing increased public service, greater access, enhanced exhibition or performing space and in developing cultural facilities that can be operated more effectively or efficiently.   Funds are provided in exchange for services provided to the public.   The CAP program is designed to encourage additional matching funds from other non-city sources with a minimum 1 to 1 match.

Facilities improvement projects should be designed to improve the artistic capabilities of and or the audience ability to experience programs in the applicant facilities.   Grants are intended to have a major impact on the applicant, the patrons served by the organization, and the surrounding community.   The Arts, Culture, Tourism & Marketing Committee (Arts Committee) encourages applications from organizations whose growth depends on access to and control of adequate facilities for optimum implementation of programs.   These programs must be accessible and promoted to the general public.

In the interest of ensuring that arts and cultural organizations have the resources to adequately plan for their capital needs, the CAP Program may consider requests for facilities planning and feasibility studies.
